It’s SXSW weekend so you may be pretty burnt out on conferences – or just sick and tired of hearing about them – but if you’re in New York City this week, don’t miss what’s sure to be a profound and fascinating conversation between Chinese digital activist and artist Ai Weiwei, Twitter co-founder and chairman Jack Dorsey, and ReadWriteWeb’s Richard MacManus. How do you like your events calendar?

These days there are just so many great technology projects around it is difficult to focus for too long on one. For the past few weeks I have been heads down working with Chatter: producing articles, demos, and talking with developers.

I’ve just been trying to figure out how to trigger some action on User creation. For example, imagine you want to make sure that a new user automatically follows some important folk in Chatter! ( signed up yet?) It turns out to be a little tricky because the User object is a little special. The documentation states that some objects “require that you perform DML operations on only one type per transaction” – the User object is one of these objects.

Spigit , the maker of a social networking platform that lets businesses use crowdsourcing to solve internal problems, is launching a new platform today that will allow external crowdsourcing as well. ContestSpigit is a $5,000 a month software-as-a-service offering for businesses that want to interact with an external audience of customers, partners or the community at large, said Richard Tso, head of marketing for the Pleasanton, Calif.-based firm.

Every one of our blog posts around here is like a delicate, magical snowflake that we nurture lovingly (if quickly) before we push it out the door into the harsh lonely world of the web. Many of them are well received (otherwise we couldn’t do this for a living) but sometimes we write something we’re really proud of and it just melts into the river of news without being read by as many people as we wished. Thus we present to you, our staff’s hand-picked posts this week that we think you may have missed but would likely enjoy quite a bit: Sponsor Frederic Lardinois has been covering the e-book market closely for months

Small cap hell is where you end up in about six months after your IPO, when all the high fives and champagne have receded into a distant memory. Unless your company is big enough. How big is big enough?
